Skagen, the most northern spot in Denmark!
Skagen (pronounced Skain) is today a top holiday spot for the
rich and famous Danish people, about 2 million people visit the
area every year. It is located at the very top of Jutland and is
the most northern town in Denmark.
Along with Copenhagen, Legoland and Bornholm, Skagen is on the
top of must see places if you are holidaying in Denmark.
Arts and Crafts.
The town is well known for its art, the light in the
area is unique and some extraordinary paintings have been
painted here. At the museum you will find over
1500 paintings and other arts and crafts made by artists working
in the area between 1830 and 1930.
The town is also well known for it’s yellow buildings with
red tiled roofs, many of them surrounded by white picked fences.
What to see.
Right at the very top about 3 km north of the township, the North Sea
and Kattegat Sea meet up and you can actually see the waves of the two
seas meeting.
About 1.5 to 2 km south of the harbour you will find a Church,
the church was buried in sand during a storm in 1775 and only the tower
is visible today.
The population of the town is about 8750 and the main business is
the fishing industry and tourism.
